PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHMENT

Balıkesir Municipality Conservatory is established with the purpose of protecting and popularizing Turkish Music and Folklore,with the purpose of keeping and improving the original quality of them and with the purpose of exploring and raising talented people. Our conservatory, established by the decision of Municipal Council on 4 June 2003 and started to operate on 15 November 2003, provides services in three fields of activity. 

FIELDS OF ACTIVITY

  • Conservatory School: Our Conservatory School’s education period lasts for four years and it is composed of Turkish Classical Music and Turkish Folk Music departments. Talent exam is needed to be accepted by these departments. Application requires at least primary school graduation or being eight-grade student. In Turkish Classical Music and Turkish Folk Music departments lessons, primarily theory, method, repertoire and instrument lessons, are given. Students who pass the final exams also pass the class. Students who successfully complete four year education period is given a certificate by our Conservatory Directorate. Thus, our students not only will learn the basic rules of the music but also will have a chance to enter other schools  to get the vocational education and they will cover a great distance in their professional life.
  • Musical Instrument Courses: People from all ages beginning with the age of 3rd grade student are taught playing of the Turkish Classical Music, Turkish Folk Music and Western Classical Music instruments in one day class in a week for eight months by the students who are expert in his/her field. In our Turkish Classical Music courses violin, oud, reed flute and piano, in Turkish Folk Music courses baglama and kaval, in Western Classical Music courses violin, guitar, piano and transverse flute are taught to play. Folk dances courses are among our activities as well. Trainees successfully completing the courses will have a chance to participate and continue next year courses.
  • Turkish Classical Music Choir: Head of the Department of Turkish Classical Music and the conductor Özkan Kef completes his musical education in State Conservatory of Turkish Music at Ege University. People from all ages and different works of life join our choir and perform the musics once in a week. Vocalists and musical instrument performers are accepted to choir by examination in September. In the years of 2011-2012 32 vocalists and 11 musical instrument performers work in our Turkish Classical Music Choir .
  • Turkish Folk Music Choir: Head of the Department of Turkish Folk Music and the conductor Hakan Altıntaş completes his musical education in State Conservatory of Turkish Music at Ege University. People from all ages and different works of life join our choir and perform the musics once in a week. Like in other departments, vocalists and musical instrument performers are accepted to choir by examination in September. In the years of 2011-2012 32 vocalists and 11 musical instrument performers work in our Turkish Classical Music Choir.
