23.07.2024

Thanks to the agricultural irrigation line laid by BASKİ upon the instruction of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın, 20,000 olive trees in Erdek's Gedeve Region were provided with water. Citizens engaged in olive farming in the region thanked Mayor Ahmet Akın.

With the instruction of Ahmet Akın, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, BASKİ laid over a thousand meters of agricultural irrigation lines to the olive groves in Erdek's Gedeve District, which were waterless due to insufficient agricultural irrigation. In addition to the existing irrigated area in the region, the Metropolitan Municipality irrigated 20 hectares more, which pleased the olive grove owners. Thanks to the works, 20 thousand more olive trees were provided with water.

THE WORK PLEASED THE OLIVE GROWERS

Ergen Demirkaya, the owner of the olive grove, who said that there was an agricultural irrigation problem in the region, said: “For a long time, the farmer had suffered a very serious loss of income because the product we obtained could not reach sufficient quality. This work made me very happy. First of all, I would like to thank our Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Akın and his team.”

“OVER A THOUSAND METERS OF PIPE LAID”

Mustafa Saçıl, President of the Erdek Chamber of Agriculture, stated that they identified the areas that were not irrigated in their meetings with farmers and said, “We presented these places we identified in a report to our Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın. When we explained the situation, he immediately said he would take care of the issue. He sent his teams and provided us material and equipment support. In total, more than a thousand meters of pipe laying was done. Approximately 20 thousand trees will meet with water. I would like to thank our Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın very much.”
